YOU WILL NEED

• Rice paper (35gsm mulberry paper)
• Decoupage glue or suitable adhesive
• Soft brush or sponge
• Optional: sanding block
• Clear sealant or varnish

STEP 1: PREPARE YOUR SURFACE

Ensure your surface is clean, dry and smooth.
Lightly sand if needed for best adhesion.

STEP 2: POSITION YOUR DESIGN

Place your rice paper onto the surface before gluing to plan your layout.

For a softer, more natural finish, gently tear around the design rather than cutting.

STEP 3: APPLY ADHESIVE

Apply a thin, even layer of adhesive to the surface.
Carefully place the rice paper on top.

STEP 4: SMOOTH INTO PLACE

Gently smooth from the centre outward using a soft brush.

Work lightly — the paper becomes delicate when wet.

STEP 5: SEAL

Once dry, apply a layer of adhesive or varnish over the top to seal and protect.

• Use a light touch — don’t overload with glue
• Tear edges for a seamless blend
• Smooth gently to avoid wrinkles
• Allow each layer to dry fully before sealing
• Colours will deepen slightly once sealed
